How the Ocicats arrived
We first fell in love with Ocicats back in 2006 when a friend in America adopted a chocolate desexed boy, I had never seen a cat like that before and was looking for a 'purebred something' to show. Started researching about Ocicats and found they had the perfect personality we were looking for.
Early 2007 we found a lovely chocolate silver desexed boy to show, he arrived home in April 2007. Instantly smitten with the breed, we were quickly on a waiting list for another kitten, this time a tawny female. Our tawny girl was born in July 07 and while waiting for her to come home we were offered a chocolate boy, 5 months old. Miss tawny and Mr Chocolate arrived home together, and we were a happy family of 3 spotted beauties.
All 3 cats were shown in the desexed class, and over the years the thought of breeding entered my mind. After much thought and discussion, and advice from fellow breeders we went ahead and registered our Prefix, and having built up a relationship with our breeder 'ordered' a breeding girl. While visiting our future queen in Victoria, we saw a litter of tiny babies sired by one of our favourite and most handsome cinnamon Ocicat boys, so a chocolate girl was soon to be ours as well to be a future breeding queen. We are so thankful Nola has trusted us with these stunning girls for breeding.
As of November 2009 the future queens are 7 and 9 months old, we wait patiently for them to grow up and add their own spotted delights to the Ocicat world. We are thoroughly enjoying their kittenhood, and they have blended in with our desesxed Ocicats wonderfully. Both girls did very well on the show scene this year, often placing in Top 5. We look forward to an exciting 2010, of mating our girls and raising their kittens along with our hobby of showing these gorgeous cats.
By the way, our friend in America who started us out on Ocicats now shares her home with 2 Ocicat boys - adding a Cinnamon (Captain Jack Sparrow) along with her original chocolate (Charlie Wonka) and sometimes talks of wanting a lavender silver in the future. Seems to be the way Ocicats are, once you've been touched by one you simply must get another of these enchanting, gentle, loving creatures. We were first taken in by their stunning looks, and really won over by their personalities.
Tragically Grand Champion Chalie Wonka passed away 4/12/09 after complications following an illness. RIP Charlie.
